Hello Singing Bird

by Sheila K Cameron

/

about

Written after the death of my mother and hearing a bird singing while walking through Glasgow Green on the way to work
The image is cropped from one of my paintings entitled The Four Chimneys

lyrics

Hello singing bird in your unsprung tree
You were my mother once upon a time
Do you remember me

A friend of mine also has an ancestor a bird
I recognize the melody
I hope it's not absurd

To be talking like this
While I'm walking through the park
The room where I've been sitting is incredibly dark

The light you enjoy
The air you breathe in
Are as fresh as a daffodil in spring

The girl who is serious
She could use your song
Her own gets caught in being frightened to do wrong

But before you fly off to your friends for tea
Or whatever you do this time of the day
I'll be here again tomorrow with a loaf of Mother's Pride
It might make up for the times I failed to fill your dream

Hello singing bird in your unsprung tree
You were my mother once upon a time
Do you remember me
Do you remember me
