about

It began with a song and perhaps it will end with a song.

There have been numerous versions of For Sure: some have been spoken word and some have been partly sung.

One of the spoken word versions is the concluding track on the small selection It Began with Song which can be found on this site and elsewhere.

The version which I have uploaded today is the one I hoped would be the end of the line.

It was arranged by Brian McNeill (formerly of China Crisis) and mastered by Geoff Allan.

lyrics

For sure you didn’t do - as much as for sure you should have done
You didn’t do for sure - as much as - for sure - you could have done
And now you’re gonna face up - face up to what you know you should have done
And for sure it won’t be easy - the facing up believe me won’t be fun

There’s not much to be sure of - to be sure of in this insecure life
Not knowing what might happen next or what might next be coming down the pike
But one thing is for sure there will be times when you will fail to get it right
Thats something to be sure of there’ll be times when you will fail to get it right

And looking back and facing up will not be fun
With your selfishness revealed be prepared to be taken on a run Into a wilderness of doubt with your shoelaces undone
And the song you thought worth singing left unsung

And clarity for sure will want to come
Will want to check for signs of cut and run
For cover up and hide from what’s to come

On a run that’s set to take you
On a run you feel might break you
On a run to where the real meets with
The what you should have done

On a run that’s set to take you
On a run you feel might break you
On a run to where the real meets with
The what you should have done

On the run to where the real meets with
The what you should have done
The looking back can be painful
The facing up can be shameful
And for sure will be a blessing when it’s done.

On a run that’s set to take you
On a run you feel might break you
On a run to where the real meets with
The what you should have done
